Emergency averted.

Suhail with scarf

As you’ll recall, I began my emergency gift–the Colinette Point Five scarf–at around 3:30 on Friday afternoon and I finished weaving in all the little ends at 2 a.m. Saturday. Eight hours’ knitting stretched to about ten and a half. (There were some small and not-so-small breaks in there, but I just wanted to get it done done done.)

Here is the happy recipient, Suhail, who exclaimed that he loved it the moment he saw it, and talked about how he had always wanted a long thick scarf that he could wrap around his neck and stuff into his coat. Asif stated that he thought the scarf looked kind of girly (I confess that this had crossed my mind as well) but Suhail said, “Who cares?” and struck the pose you see here.

So all in all, that was a great success. It’s not the cheapest scarf I’ve ever knit, but it was fun working with the Point Five and the result is certainly dramatic. If I can think of anyone else I’d spend that kind of money on, I’ll try churning out a few more for the holidays.

SOY Annual Bowl-a-thon 2007

After the scarf presentation, Asif and Suhail and I went the SOY (Supporting Our Youth) bowl-a-thon to raise money for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered youth programs. Although my bowling was excruciatingly (I think one game I scored 22), I had a great time, and the fundraising results were remarkable: more than $41,000! This is about $7,000 more than last year, and we thought last year’s figure would be impossible to match. Needless to say, we were a very happy bunch of bowlers. I think we scared a few families.

How great to have a gift loved from the moment it’s opened! In my opinion, a red thick/thin scarf is not girly but bless him for not caring anyway. I think it looks great!

The scarf looks great! I’m in the process of making wrist warmers for my daughter’s boyfriend and although I think they look very girly, she assures me he will wear absolutely anything, in any colour. I wish everyone were like him. Imagine what the world would be like if everyone just wore what they liked, instead of what someone else wants them to wear. Wouldn’t we all be happier? (except for the fashion designers.)Good for Suhail!
